Another packed weekend of CivMC hockey saw plenty of goals across the IHL, with several fixtures standing out. From thrilling Premier contests to dominant Championship performances and three International Cup ties, the weekend provided plenty to talk about.
Exyria and Bloom produced one of the weekend's most entertaining double-headers, with the two sides sharing two very different games. Exyria took Game 1 11–4, with Lycoros leading the scoring with five goals. Bloom responded with four of their own, but Exyria maintained control throughout. Game 2 was a much tighter affair, with Exyria eventually edging Bloom 7–6. Lycoros was again the decisive figure, scoring all seven of Exyria's goals, while Shadno and Xcios led Bloom's response. The two results gave Exyria a perfect weekend and kept them at the top of the early Premier standings.
Salerno SalerknightsFull time
Lyrean Lions produced one of the weekend's most dominant performances as they completed a clean sweep of Salerno. Game 1 was very one-sided, with Lyrean winning 17–1. SandFalls scored an incredible eight goals, BlankestAtlas added seven and PureMaster11 scored twice. Game 2 finished 11–4, with BlankestAtlas scoring five and SandFalls and PureMaster11 adding three apiece. ToastIsNear scored twice for Salerno, while P4R4D0X3 and pengdi also got on the scoresheet. The result underlined Lyrean's attacking strength, with their forwards combining for 28 goals across the two games.
Commons Culprits also completed a sweep, defeating Zirakdum 11–2 in Game 1 before following it up with a 12–4 victory in Game 2. Bruisedbread was the standout performer in the opening game, scoring six goals, while SapphireFloof added three and FasePlay two. Zirakdum's goals came from DefeatedPrawn and NotDuffy. The second game saw Bruisedbread add another five, with SapphireFloof scoring four and FasePlay three. The two games produced a combined 29 goals, with SapphireFloof reaching 24 career goals during the second match.
In a refreshing twist to regular league action, the International Cup provided three decisive results over the weekend. Commons Culprits defeated Cortesian Comets 14–1, with SapphireFloof scoring eight and Bruisedbread adding five. FasePlay also found the net as Commons made an emphatic start to their cup campaign.
Zirakdum Mighty DwarvesFull time
Zirakdum Mighty Dwarves then won their first fixture as they defeated CN Melvera-Victoria 7–5 in a much closer contest. DefeatedPrawn was the difference-maker, scoring six of Zirakdum's seven goals. CN's five goals came from Primflounder175, SquigglyGlobe and Dinopwranger, but Zirakdum held on to claim the victory.
The weekend's final International Cup fixture saw Oakham Villa defeat Aequoris Attackers 21–0. Goneguy5 led the Villa attack with ten goals, while snw added seven and iPlexity four. It was Oakham's third consecutive victory and second clean sheet in three games.
Round 2 will see the Culprits @ Salerno, Zirakdum away to the Imperial Feds, and the Lyrean Lions will travel to Oakham in an all-Lyrean contest.
